The Fairway Standard: Milton Golf

Milton Academy Golf is a program designed for student-athletes who value precision, mental discipline, and the pursuit of individual excellence within a team framework. We compete in the Independent School League (ISL), facing off against the premier prep programs in New England on some of the region's most storied courses. At Milton, we view golf as a true test of character, where resilience and strategic thinking are just as vital as a consistent swing. Our goal is to foster a high-energy environment where players can refine their technical skills while developing the composure necessary to compete at the highest level.

The program is a consistent presence in the top tier of the ISL standings, competing annually for the Kingman Cup title. This sustained success has created a proven collegiate pathway, helping our athletes navigate the recruitment process for NCAA programs across all divisions.

The Mustangs are privileged to call the Milton Hoosic Club our home course. This championship-caliber facility provides our athletes with a professional-grade environment to sharpen their short games and master course management. In addition to our time on the course, the program utilizes our golf simulator on campus for additional practice and development.

The Tactical Approach: Developing the High-IQ Golfer

The coaching staff at Milton prioritizes technical mastery and situational awareness. We don't just focus on the mechanics of the swing; we teach our athletes how to "read" the course and manage their game under pressure. Our coaches provide individualized instruction to help every player—from those eyeing collegiate rosters to multi-sport athletes—decode the complexities of the game. By emphasizing club selection, green reading, and the mental toughness required to bounce back from a tough hole, we ensure every Mustang approaches the first tee with a tactical advantage.

The Joseph O. Procter ’32 MVP Award

This is the highest honor within the Milton Golf program. Established in 1990, it is awarded to the player who best represents the spirit of the game—balancing competitive excellence with the integrity and etiquette that Joseph Procter championed throughout his life. It serves as the ultimate recognition of a player’s value to the team's culture and performance.

Jim Gaudet

Head Coach

Coach Gaudet leads the Milton Academy golf program with a deep understanding of the technical and mental discipline required to compete at the highest levels of the ISL. He emphasizes a process-over-outcome philosophy, helping student-athletes navigate the complexities of course management and the psychological resilience needed to succeed on the greens.

Coach Gaudet's approach is rooted in individual development within a team framework. He leverages Milton's access to championship-caliber facilities, including the Milton Hoosic Club, to provide players with the tactical edge necessary for elite prep competition — focusing on situational awareness such as club selection, green reading, and the ability to bounce back from adversity.

Beyond the technical game, Coach Gaudet is dedicated to fostering a supportive, high-energy team culture. He views golf as a powerful vehicle for character development, teaching lessons in integrity, poise, and strategic thinking that translate far beyond the fairway. Under his leadership, Milton Golf continues to be a program where dedicated athletes can refine their skills, compete for league honors, and prepare for collegiate-level play.

Assistant Coach

Coach Stone brings a strategic, high-IQ perspective to the Milton team, focusing on the intersection of technical mechanics and tournament-round execution. He works closely with student-athletes to refine their course management and mental stamina, helping them bridge the gap between the practice range and the pressure of the ISL circuit. Dedicated to the holistic growth of the team, Coach Stone ensures every Mustang — from collegiate-bound recruits to multi-sport athletes — has the tactical tools necessary to compete on New England's most challenging courses.

Honors & Awards

Milton Academy Golf has a storied tradition of competitive excellence in the Independent School League. Our athletes consistently demonstrate the poise and strategic mastery required to stand out among the top prep programs in New England — and the hardware to prove it.

In 2026, the Mustangs claimed the McCampbell Cup, a prestigious challenge tournament drawing top private and public school programs from across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. In 2022, the team reached the pinnacle of ISL competition by winning the Kingman Cup, cementing Milton's reputation as one of the premier golf programs in the region. At the individual level, the program has a track record of producing dominant competitors — most recently Reese Jensen '25, who earned back-to-back ISL League MVP honors in 2024 and 2025, a rare achievement at the prep school level.

On the girls' side, Darby Yang delivered one of the program's most memorable individual performances at the Pippy O'Connor Tournament — the Girls NEPSAC Championship — shooting a 69 (-2) to claim the individual title. She was joined by teammates Alyssa Liu, Kailyn Love, and Dasha Johnson, with the squad finishing 6th overall in one of the most competitive fields in New England prep golf.
