Run For More Than Yourself

Milton Academy Girls Track & Field is the largest team on campus — approximately 60 athletes strong — and one of the most successful programs in the Independent School League. Competing in the ISL and NEPSAC Class A, the Mustangs have built a reputation for developing both elite competitors and well-rounded student-athletes across the full spectrum of track and field disciplines.

The program's culture is its foundation. Teamwork, resilience, inclusivity, and a shared commitment to growth define what it means to be a Mustang in this program — and that culture produces results. Milton consistently finishes among the top programs at the ISL and NEPSAC Division I Championships, and each year sends some of the top track and field athletes in the country on to compete at the collegiate level. The training environment is intentional by design: individual specialization is balanced with a collective drive for team success, ensuring that every athlete — from the sprinter chasing a PR to the thrower competing for All-ISL honors — is both challenged and supported.

Program Philosophy: Where Individual Effort Becomes Team Success

Milton Girls Track & Field is built on a simple but powerful belief: track is a team sport won through individual breakthroughs. We approach every practice with a growth mindset — each rep, each split, and each attempt is an opportunity to improve. We challenge our athletes to embrace the discipline required for elite performance while upholding the sportsmanship and character that define the Milton community.

At the heart of our culture is a sense of shared journey. Athletes support one another across every event group, and our meets reflect that — filled with the kind of genuine, joyful cheering that can only come from a team that is truly invested in each other's success. At Milton, we train with purpose and compete with joy, knowing that our collective spirit is our greatest competitive advantage.

A Pathway for Every Athlete

Teams: 1st Team

Milton Girls Track & Field provides an inclusive program structure designed to support athletes at every stage of development across all disciplines. Our facilities reflect that commitment — including a six-lane outdoor track, two jump pits, pole vault and high jump mats, discus, shot put, and javelin sectors, a three-lane 150-meter indoor track, and a full weight room. Every athlete has access to the resources necessary to reach her full potential.

The Milton Girls Track & Field 1st Team is grounded in foundational mechanics, skill acquisition across multiple event groups, and preparation for elite-level competition. Every athlete who joins the program competes at the varsity level and participates in all regular season meets — because we believe the lessons of track and field, resilience, self-discipline, and the pursuit of incremental progress, are valuable for every student-athlete who walks through our doors.

Whether you are a veteran competitor with collegiate ambitions or a newcomer looking to discover your strengths in a supportive team environment, there is a place for you here.

Coaching Staff

Chris Lewis ’15

Head Coach, Sprints and Jumps Coach

Coach Lewis is a 2015 graduate of Milton Academy who returns to lead the Girls Varsity Track & Field program with a deep understanding of what it means to compete as a Mustang. During his time at Milton, he was a premier multi-sport athlete — captaining the boys' soccer team to an undefeated regular season and earning Boston Globe ISL Defensive Player of the Year honors, while on the track setting school records in the long jump and 4x100m relay, serving as team captain, and playing a pivotal role in leading the program to its first ISL Championship in over three decades. He was also a recipient of the inaugural ISL Award of Excellence, recognizing his athletic ability, sportsmanship, and contributions to the Milton community.

Following Milton, Coach Lewis had a highly successful career at Amherst College, where he helped the soccer program capture its first NCAA National Championship in 2015. Since returning to Milton and taking the helm of the Girls Track & Field program, he has overseen a period of historic achievement — including multiple school records, numerous ISL and NEPSAC individual championships, and an undefeated regular season in 2024–2025, the first time the program had achieved that milestone in over 25 years.

Beyond the track, Coach Lewis serves as Director of Residential Life in the Upper School, Assistant Coach for the Boys Varsity Soccer team, and faculty advisor for Onyx and the Caribbean Student Association — reflecting the same commitment to community and mentorship that defines his coaching philosophy.
