The Legacy and Future of Milton Girls’ Lacrosse

For decades, the Milton Academy Girls’ Lacrosse program has stood as a beacon of tactical ingenuity and relentless competitive spirit in the heart of the Independent School League (ISL). Our history is one of consistent contention, highlighted by a perennial presence at the top of the league standings and a milestone run to the semi-finals in the inaugural ISL Tournament. Today, the Varsity squad continues to push the boundaries of the sport, blending elite stick-work and high-level lacrosse IQ with a sophisticated understanding of team dynamics. We don’t just play the game; we study its flow, mastering the transition from a locked-down defense to a creative, fast-break offense.

Looking forward, the program is dedicated to maintaining this trajectory of excellence. We serve as a premier pipeline for the next generation of collegiate talent, with Mustangs frequently transitioning to storied careers at Division I and Division III powerhouses such as Stanford, Columbia, and Williams, and contributing to NCAA Championship titles at Middlebury and Trinity. At Milton, the future of lacrosse is bright, fast, and fueled by a tradition of winning.

Program Philosophy: Unity, Effort, and Love

Milton Girls Lacrosse is built on the intersection of high-stakes competition and genuine joy. We believe the most formidable teams are bound by real friendship and a shared passion for the game — and our culture reflects that. A season with the Mustangs is defined by the bonds that form through shared sacrifice, hard work, and the understanding that we are playing for something bigger than ourselves. Trust, effort, and a deep love for the game are not aspirational values here; they are daily expectations.

Our traditions are the heartbeat of the program. Friday night team dinners, game-day dress-ups, and our legendary Blue vs. Orange inter-squad competition give the season its rhythm and reinforce the relationships that make this team special. We also recognize that our athletes are scholars first — our coaches are mindful of the intellectual demands of a Milton education, and we believe that the focus and intensity of lacrosse provides an essential and exhilarating release. In this program, vulnerability builds trust and fun is a non-negotiable part of what makes us successful.

Milton Girls’ Lacrosse is a comprehensive community that welcomes every athlete, from the seasoned recruit to the curious beginner. We believe the life lessons found within the lines—resilience, communication, and the discipline of teamwork—should be accessible to all. To support this vision, we field three distinct teams.

There is a space for every student to wear the Milton colors with pride. Whether you are vying for a starting spot on the 1st Team or picking up a stick for the very first time on 3rds, you will find a coaching staff dedicated to your growth and a team culture that values your voice. At Milton, you aren't just joining a roster; you are joining a family of resilient, disciplined athletes who compete with integrity and heart.

Coaching Staff

Trish Thompson

Head Coach

Coach Thompson began leading the Milton Academy Girls Lacrosse program in 2022, bringing an elite pedigree of collegiate coaching and a storied playing career to the Mustang sidelines. Her eight years coaching at the Division I level included stops at the University at Albany, the College of the Holy Cross — her alma mater — where she served as first assistant and guided the team to back-to-back Patriot League Championship games, and Harvard University, where the Crimson advanced to the Ivy League tournament in every year of her tenure.

As a student-athlete, Coach Thompson was one of the most prolific players in Patriot League history. A decorated midfielder at Holy Cross, she was named Patriot League Rookie of the Year in 2003 and Player of the Year in 2007, earned three First Team All-Patriot League selections and Northeast Region All-American honors, and remains the program's all-time leading scorer with 291 career points. She served as a senior captain, won the 2007 Crusader of the Year award, and in 2016 became the first women's lacrosse player ever inducted into the Holy Cross Athletic Hall of Fame.

Beyond Milton, Coach Thompson remains active in the development of the sport through her work with Laxachusetts and Milton Youth Lacrosse, ensuring that her impact on the New England lacrosse community extends well beyond the Mustang sideline.

Kully Reardon

Assistant Coach

Coach Reardon graduated from Middlebury College in 1999 by way of the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut. She played three sports in high school — field hockey, swimming, and lacrosse — and continued that multi-sport path into college, winning three national championships along the way. She went on to Wesleyan University, where she completed a Master's degree in Liberal Studies while serving as a graduate assistant for field hockey and lacrosse.

That experience led to her first head coaching role, leading the Babson College women's lacrosse program and serving as assistant field hockey coach from 2001 to 2011. At Babson, she led the Beavers to five consecutive NEWMAC titles and five NCAA tournament appearances. After having children and moving to the South Shore, she continued coaching at Cohasset High School from 2011 to 2021, where the Skippers won two state titles.

Following her time at Cohasset, Coach Reardon focused her coaching efforts with Laxachusetts, personal training, and teaching strength and fitness classes. She joined the Mustangs for the 2026 season.

Kelsey Mumford

Assistant Coach

Coach Mumford played women's lacrosse at Quinnipiac University from 2013 to 2017 before returning to her alma mater, Bow High School, where she served as varsity assistant coach. She went on to serve as head coach of the Girls Varsity Lacrosse program at Pomfret School in Connecticut from 2022 to 2023, while simultaneously coaching club lacrosse with 3D New England Girls Lacrosse.

At Milton, Coach Mumford served as head JV coach before joining the varsity staff for the 2026 season. Beyond the field, she is a member of the Upper School faculty as an Academic Learning Specialist, a dorm parent in Hallowell House, and a student advisor — bringing a well-rounded understanding of the Milton student-athlete experience to everything she does on the coaching staff.
