A Legacy of Precision and Performance

Milton Academy Boys’ Tennis is defined by a storied tradition of high-level play and sustained excellence within the Independent School League (ISL). As a consistent powerhouse in one of the most competitive 16-team leagues in New England, the Mustangs have solidified their place at the top of the standings, including a league championship and frequent top-five finishes. This success is not accidental; it is the result of a year-round commitment to the craft. With many athletes training intensively during the off-season, the team arrives each spring with the technical mastery and competitive edge required to navigate a rigorous ISL schedule.

At Milton, we don’t just play matches; we uphold a standard of high-performance tennis that honors the program’s championship history while relentlessly pursuing the next title.

2026 ISL Champions 

For the first time since 2014, Milton Academy Boys Tennis stands atop the Independent School League — and the Mustangs did it without dropping a single match. A perfect 12–0 record in ISL play. Undefeated. Start to finish. No asterisks.

Mitch Byrne '28 set the standard all season, going undefeated in both singles and doubles. But when the championship was on the line, it came down to a doubles court and two freshmen who didn't blink. Michael Li '29 and Grant Fan '29 won the match that clinched the doubles point — and put the 2026 ISL title on ice.

Milton Boys Tennis is grounded in the dual pursuit of athletic excellence and genuine sportsmanship — built on the belief that individual success is fueled by the energy and commitment of the entire team. Our players bring the same intellectual curiosity and drive to the baseline that they bring to the classroom, and that balance is central to what makes this program distinctive.

Our culture is built on authentic connection. Each spring, the team travels for an immersive training and bonding trip that sets the tone for the season ahead — high-intensity court work balanced with the kind of off-court moments that turn teammates into friends. Those friendships extend well beyond the spring season, from alumni text chains that span years to the energy shared between the lines on match day. The connections forged on these trips are the foundation of our competitive resilience.

The Milton Boys’ Tennis program is structured to provide a professionalized and welcoming experience for players at every stage of their athletic journey. We believe the court is a place where every student can find a sense of belonging, whether they are pursuing an elite collegiate path or discovering the game for the first time. Our tiered system ensures that every student-athlete is challenged, supported, and fully integrated into the broader tennis community.

While the Varsity level focuses on elite competition and championship-level strategy, our sub-varsity opportunities are intentionally designed for those looking to sharpen their skills in a competitive yet inclusive environment. We champion the idea that tennis is a lifelong sport; therefore, whether a player is a seasoned tournament veteran or a newcomer eager to contribute to the team's energy, there is a space for them to thrive.

Coaching Staff

Chad Bright-Reason ’98

Head Coach

Coach Bright-Reason returned to his alma mater with over 20 years of professional experience and a deep-rooted connection to the Milton tennis tradition. A member of the Class of '98, he was a standout dual-sport athlete for the Mustangs, competing on both the Varsity Tennis and Basketball teams. His journey in the sport began at age six at the Sportsmen's Tennis Center in Dorchester — a foundation that evolved into a distinguished career as a PTR Certified professional and mentor.

Coach Bright-Reason has spent over two decades as a premier teaching professional in Massachusetts, including roles at The Weymouth Club and as Director of Tennis at The Cape Club of Sharon. His experience extends to the collegiate and national ranks, having served as Head Coach for both the men's and women's programs at Mass Bay Community College and traveling with top-tier New England juniors to national tournaments. He currently serves as Executive Director of A. Bright Future, where he also sits on the Board of Directors, focusing his efforts on expanding tennis and life skills opportunities for youth in underserved communities.

Coach Bright-Reason views the court as a space for both high-level competition and character development — committed to developing the complete athlete technically, mentally, and personally. Returning to Milton is a homecoming, and he brings that sense of pride and purpose to everything he does with the program.

From the elite competition of the NESCAC to the high-stakes environment of Division I, Mustangs continue to lead and excel long after their time on the Milton courts.
