Milton Baseball is a community built for players who love the game and are ready to put in the work to reach their full potential. Competing in the Independent School League (ISL) and the NEPSAC, we offer a program where development and team chemistry are the primary focus. Our culture is built on collective hustle — and the results speak for themselves. In 2026, the Mustangs claimed the ISL Championship, capping the season with a dominant 7–0 victory in the title game, sealed by a combined no-hitter. Whether you are looking to sharpen your fundamentals or prepare for the next level of competition, Milton provides the coaching, facilities, and high-energy environment necessary for every player to succeed.

The road to the ISL playoffs doesn't start in Massachusetts; it begins under the Florida sun. Every March, the Mustangs head to Port St. Lucie for a week-long residency with Florida Coast Spring Training. This is a total immersion into the life of a ballplayer, featuring a schedule of double-headers, practices, and team outings designed to build a cohesive roster before the first pitch is thrown back north. When the team returns to campus, the work continues at Nash Field, supplemented by the ACC's indoor field house for specialized strength and conditioning.

ISL CHAMPIONS

The 2026 Milton Academy Mustangs delivered one of the most dominant postseason runs in program history, claiming the ISL Championship with a perfect 3–0 tournament record and outscoring their opponents a combined 23–6 along the way. The Mustangs dispatched Roxbury Latin in a tight quarterfinal (7–6), then shut out Thayer Academy 9–0 in the semifinals before sealing the title against Tabor Academy with a 7–0 combined no-hitter on May 17 — one of the most commanding championship game performances in recent ISL memory.

Head coach Brendan Morrissey earned his first ISL championship at the prep school level, adding to an already decorated resume that included back-to-back MIAA Division 2 state titles at Milton High School in 2022 and 2023. Milton Academy was awarded the 2026 Harsley Reginald Nash Memorial Award for winning the league championship. Shortstop Brandon West '26, headed to Babson College, earned co-ISL MVP honors in recognition of an outstanding senior season.

The coaching staff at Milton approaches the game with a focus on technical mastery and situational awareness. We don't just want you to throw strikes; we want you to understand the sequence. We don't just want you to hit; we want you to hunt pitches. Our coaches provide individualized instruction to help every player—from multi-sport athletes to those focused on collegiate recruitment—decode the game. By teaching athletes to analyze their own mechanics, we ensure every Mustang steps onto the dirt with a tactical advantage.

We offer a path for every player dedicated to the work through a fluid three-tier system.

Coaching Staff

Brendan Morrissey

Head Coach

A Milton native and graduate of Milton High School, Brendan Morrissey brings a championship pedigree and a deep connection to the local baseball community to the Mustangs' dugout. After graduating from St. Anselm College, Coach Morrissey built one of the most dominant high school programs in Massachusetts history.

From 2018 to 2023, he served as the head coach at Milton High School, where he amassed an incredible 81–32 overall record. His postseason success is particularly notable, boasting a 17–3 playoff record that fueled three Bay State League Championships and back-to-back MIAA State Championships in 2022 and 2023. His ability to elevate talent is evidenced by the development of two League MVPs and the 2023 MIAA Player of the Year under his watch.

Morrissey’s leadership has been recognized at the highest levels of the state, earning him Boston Herald Coach of the Year honors in 2021 and Boston Globe Coach of the Year in 2022. Beyond the high school circuit, he is the co-founder of the Matt Duffy Baseball Knights Club program, where he has been instrumental in developing countless players from across the South Shore. At Milton Academy, Coach Morrissey utilizes this extensive experience to foster a high-energy environment focused on technical mastery, situational IQ, and a "play-your-best-late" competitive mindset.

Dan Sweeney

Assistant Coach

Dan Sweeney is a vital member of the varsity coaching staff, bringing a wealth of tactical knowledge and a focus on player development to the Mustangs. Known for his ability to break down the technical nuances of the game, Coach Sweeney works closely with our student-athletes to refine their mechanics and elevate their situational IQ. His coaching philosophy centers on building a high-energy, competitive atmosphere where players are encouraged to take ownership of their progress and compete with poise under pressure.

Jake Fitzgibbons

Assistant Coach

Jake Fitzgibbons brings firsthand knowledge of high-level competition to the Milton baseball program, having played four years as a catcher at Division I UMass Lowell. His connection to Milton runs deep — Jake played for head coach Morrissey during two summers in the Futures Collegiate League with the Brockton Rox and Road Warriors, giving him a strong foundation in the program's culture and expectations before ever stepping into a coaching role.

Coach Fitzgibbons is known for emphasizing the intangibles — the collective hustle, attention to detail, and execution of the "little things" that separate good teams from great ones. He plays an integral role in sustaining Milton Baseball's mentorship-driven culture, bridging the gap between veteran leaders and younger players while holding the entire roster to the program's standard of hard work and technical precision.

Nick Petchell

Assistant Coach

Nick Petchell brings a modern, data-informed perspective to the Milton dugout, specializing in the development of the high-IQ ballplayer. As an assistant coach, he focuses on individualized instruction, helping athletes decode the game through a better understanding of pitch sequencing and offensive strategy. Coach Petchell is dedicated to ensuring that every Mustang—from those looking toward collegiate careers to multi-sport athletes—has the tools and tactical advantage necessary to succeed in the Independent School League.
