Wellness at Milton. Health Minds, Healthy Bodies, Healthy Community.

At Milton Academy, we believe that students thrive when they are known, supported, and encouraged to take care of their whole selves. Our commitment to wellness extends across each division, from our youngest learners to our senior class, and reflects our belief that physical and mental health are essential to a meaningful education. Overseen by our school physician, Melissa Nass ’95, P’26, ’29—one of the most renowned pediatric doctors in Boston—Our wellness philosophy is rooted in connection. We cultivate an inclusive, compassionate community where every student is seen and valued.

Milton’s wellness program takes a holistic approach: It is developed and coordinated by experienced healthcare professionals, including a school physician, with the 24/7 support of experts across a range of fields and access to some of the world’s leading childhood health resources through our partners at Boston Children’s Hospital.

A Whole-Child Approach

Wellness is woven into daily life at Milton. Teachers, advisors, counselors, and coaches work together to create an environment where students feel safe, confident, and empowered. We prioritize age-appropriate programming that helps students build healthy habits, develop resilience, and understand how to balance academic challenge with personal well-being. Our health center provides daily nursing support to all three divisions and 24/7 care for boarding students.

Physical Health
and Vitality

From vibrant athletics programs to abundant opportunities for outdoor play, movement is an essential part of the school day. Our athletic facilities, recess spaces, and co-curricular offerings encourage students to stay active, discover new interests, and learn the value of teamwork and perseverance. From physical education classes where students learn the basics of sports and movement to an outstanding athletic training program supporting our Upper School competitors, students receive guidance that keeps them safe while promoting peak performance.

Mental & Emotional Support

A strong support network helps students navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and grow in self-awareness. Our counseling team partners with families and faculty to provide guidance, skill-building, and resources tailored to each student’s developmental stage. We foster a culture where students feel comfortable asking for help, expressing and advocating for themselves, and looking out for one another.

Through advisory programs, mindfulness practices, restorative approaches, and thoughtful community norms, we help students develop empathy, manage stress, and contribute positively to the world around them. Students also offer peer support and clubs focused on wellness and meditation.

Milton’s campus is rich with spaces that support student wellness, from its athletic and training facilities to the Reflection Garden outside Apthorp Chapel, along with the Lower School garden, age-appropriate playground and recess areas, and quiet study spaces.
