A Home Within a Home

Milton’s residential life is built around its houses—welcoming communities that include students from all four Upper School grades. In a unique vertical structure, Milton students build close-knit bonds with young and older housemates. This structure ensures that boarding students live in the same house throughout their entire time in the Upper School. Students develop close-knit bonds with younger and older classmates, faculty families, and housemates who quickly feel like family. This creates built-in mentorship, meaningful traditions, and a deep sense of belonging that defines life on campus.

Our Houses

Milton’s nine boarding houses—Academy, Forbes, Goodwin, Hallowell, Hathaway, Millet, Norris, Robbins, and Wolcott—each offer their own character while maintaining a school-wide commitment to relationship building, care, and community. Each house is shaped by shared experiences, traditions, and lasting friendships, which students treasure long after graduation.

Common Spaces

Every Milton house features a comfortable, welcoming common area designed for both connection and quiet moments. With kitchens, dining areas, and spaces for study and relaxation, these common rooms are the heart of house life—hosting movie nights, music sessions on the house pianos, study groups, games of pool or ping-pong, house meetings, video games, and celebrations that turn everyday moments into lifelong memories.

Academy 
House

Academy House is Milton’s all-gender dorm, opened in 2022, and the school’s smallest residential community. Academy House is frequently described as living with siblings in a space grounded in care, respect, and inclusion. Home to students of all gender identities, Academy House offers a warm, family-like environment where every student is known, valued, and supported. The school and Academy House faculty work closely with students and their families to ensure that the house structure, including potential roommate assignments and community norms, supports all residents.
