Living at Milton Academy: A Home, A Community, A Place to Grow.

At Milton Academy, boarding is more than where you live; it’s where you belong. For students from across the country and the world, our program offers close-knit, residential community just outside Boston. Here, learning continues well beyond the classroom, shaped by friendships, mentorship, and shared experiences that unfold every day.

You’ll stay in the same house throughout your time at Milton, giving you a true home away from home. New students feel welcomed and supported by older housemates, who grow to be leaders within these tight-knit communities. Generations of Milton boarding alumni love and identify with their houses for life.

Life in the Houses

Each Milton house has its own traditions, personality, and shared experiences. Boarders celebrate birthdays and other milestones together, relax with movie nights, and cheer each other on at performances and games. Friends play pool together during downtime or take trips into Boston to explore the city. 

Twice a week, houses come together for family-style dinners, creating space for both meaningful conversation and everyday connection. Faculty live in the houses, serving as mentors, advisors, and trusted adults—present not just during the school day, but throughout students’ daily lives.

The boarding community also enjoys inter-house events, like holiday caroling and pumpkin carving, and opportunities for students to proudly represent their houses in dorm dodgeball and volleyball.  

The Host Family Program

Milton’s Host Family Program extends the sense of home even further.

Every year, families of Milton students volunteer to host boarding students who want to leave campus and spend a weekend night away, enjoy a special activity, or even just eat a home-cooked meal. All host families are carefully vetted and approved, ensuring a safe and welcoming experience.

Weekends at Milton

On weekends, the campus comes to life in new ways.

With 20+ student-sponsored events each month, students can:

  • Attend performances and campus events
  • Take trips into Boston
  • Participate in house competitions and traditions
  • Relax and recharge with friends

All activities are open to both boarding and day students—strengthening the entire Upper School community.

Milton’s boarding program brings together students from 36 countries and 18 U.S. states. Living and learning alongside peers from around the world creates opportunities for daily cultural exchange, broader perspectives, and a deeper understanding across differences. 

International students are supported through:
