Straus Library

A brick building with a grand entrance, surrounded by lush greenery and a well-manicured lawn, stands prominently in the image.

One of the school’s original Georgian buildings, Straus Library served as the school’s library from 1929 to 1971.

The bright, spacious former library space on the building’s main level is surrounded by windows, giving a beautiful view of the Quad and its surroundings. Straus is the site of campus meetings, as well as special events, including the Gratwick Concert, faculty and staff celebrations as well as Milton’s Straus Desserts series hosted by Milton’s Public Issues Board.

The building’s original wooden stairs and upper-level catwalks give visitors a birds-eye view of the space, which features a Steinway concert grand piano and couches that provide comfortable spots for quiet studying when the room is not in use. The building was a gift of Herbert N. and Theresa K. Straus, parents of Donald Straus, Class of 1934, and Oliver Straus, Class of 1932.
