Kellner Performing Arts Center

A brick building with arched windows stands amidst a colorful autumn landscape, with trees in various shades of green, yellow, and orange surrounding the structure.

The Kellner Performing Arts Center is a teaching center for the performing arts and music departments and Milton’s premier performance space.

Kellner includes a large dance studio, classrooms for speech and debate training, classrooms and practice rooms for chorus, orchestra and jazz, a “black box” studio theater, fully equipped scene construction and costume shops, and the Ruth King Theatre.

The Ruth King Theatre, a gift of novelist Stephen King P'88 '90 in memory of his mother, Ruth, is an exceptional teaching space for the performing arts. Equipped with a stage adaptable to thrust or apron configurations, the theatre is a 20th-century adaptation of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. King Theatre hosts several main-stage productions each year, ranging from plays to musicals to the annual Winter Dance Concert.

The building’s lobby, known as the Arts Commons, is a light-filled space whose mezzanine doubles as an art gallery, displaying rotating exhibitions of student artwork throughout the academic year.

Every day, Kellner is filled with music from the orchestra and jazz ensembles. Several private practice rooms provide spaces for student instrumentalists and pianists to hone their craft or take private lessons with music tutors. The building is also home to Milton’s nationally recognized speech and debate program.
