About the Building

The William Coburn Cox Library, which relocated to Wigglesworth Hall in 2023, serves as a hub for research, reading, and reflection. Originally gifted by William Coburn Cox, Class of 1924, and Jessie Bancroft Cox in the 1970s, the library continues their legacy of inspiring lifelong learning.

Designed to foster both learning and community, the library features dedicated areas for quiet and independent study as well as small-group collaboration. Adjacent to the Schwarz Student Center, Cox Library reflects Milton’s belief that learning happens everywhere—through reading, conversation, and connection. The Berylson Reading Room serves as the center of the new library space. Overlooking the Quad, this space offers access to the library’s extensive collection, as well as ample display space for special and themed collections.

The Young Adult Reading Area, with comfortable seating and easy access to a collection tailored for teen readers, is a favorite spot for group work and browsing for pleasure reads. A quiet room is also available for students, supporting those who need a silent place to study and concentrate.
