Milton Academy combines rigorous academics, vibrant student life, and a distinctive boarding and day community. Our students are challenged to think deeply, explore widely, and grow into confident, compassionate leaders.
Our unique structure—comprising Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools—creates a strong sense of continuity and community, allowing students to be known, tested, and supported at every step of their educational journey. Half of our Upper School students live on campus as part of a dynamic boarding community that adds richness and global perspectives to daily life at Milton.
Driven by our motto, “Dare to be true,” Milton encourages students to discover who they are and who they will become. Here, young people are empowered to lead, to express themselves with confidence, to take risks, and to make a meaningful impact on their communities and the world.

Diversity—in backgrounds, identities, talents, and viewpoints—is one of Milton’s greatest strengths.
Our students come from across the country and around the world, creating a learning environment where curiosity thrives, differences are celebrated, and understanding grows.
Milton has been renowned for more than two centuries for its academic excellence, innovative teaching, and a commitment to educating the whole child. Yet what truly defines us is the joy of our community: a place where students form lifelong friendships, pursue their passions with purpose, and become their truest, boldest selves. Dare to be Milton. Dare to be true.

Our MISSION
Milton Academy cultivates in its students a passion for learning and a respect for others. Embracing diversity and the pursuit of excellence, we create a community in which individuals develop competence, confidence and character. Our active learning environment, in and out of the classroom, develops creative and critical thinkers, unafraid to express their ideas, prepared to seek meaningful lifetime success and to live by our motto, “Dare to be true.”

About the Upper School
Welcome to Milton Academy.
Around the table in the classroom, in laboratories, on fields, in studios, on stage and in the dorm, you’ll find friends and classmates who are smart, caring, opinionated, funny and talented in so many different ways. Upper SchoolMilton students like to create, problem-solve, work hard, laugh, and try new things. They develop confidence in themselves and take pride in one another’s success. That spirit defines Milton.
The Upper School at Milton Academy is a joyful, academically challenging, and dynamic place where students can dare to express themselves, explore new and beloved passions, and form lifelong friendships. Our unique, 50-50 boarding and day community combines the diverse, global perspectives of boarding students from dozens of countries and states with a strong sense of place and purpose in Greater Boston.
We invite you to visit and experience our community firsthand. You’ll feel the energy of our campus, the respect among students and faculty, and the pride we all take in learning, growing, and being part of something bigger than ourselves.
I applied to a bunch of independent schools in the Boston area, but what really stood out to me about Milton was that it cherished and promoted well-roundedness. I’ve found on campus that people bring such a diversity of backgrounds and interests to the school, and folks can really step outside of their comfort zone.

Our Students: Today's Miltonians

A unique community.
Our students are scholars, athletes, artists, leaders—and often, all of those things at once. They immerse themselves in a wide range of opportunities both in and out of the classroom, building the confidence and capability to thrive at the most selective colleges and universities.

Small classes by design.
Guided by skilled, invested faculty, students sharpen their thinking, expand their perspectives, and grow as creative, aware, and engaged learners. But more than that, they leave Milton with a strong sense of purpose and identity.

Words that guide us.
Our motto, “Dare to Be True,” stays with graduates long after they leave. It speaks to our mission: to educate bold, thoughtful individuals who lead lives of integrity and meaning across every profession and path.
